The historic town of New Braunfels resides just north of San Antonio at the watery intersection of the Comal and Guadalupe rivers. Originally, New Braunfels was a German community, and much of that old world charm continues to exist today.
New Braunfels has a population of around 100,000, up from 25,000 in 1990. The city’s independent school district (NBISD) has nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools that serve 9700 students with 1200 employees.
The city is home to numerous outdoor spaces, a regional airport and a community theater. Additionally New Braunfels has immediate access to I35 which runs to San Antonio to the south and Austin to the north, both of which are under an hour, and is a a short day trip from Dallas/Fort Worth.
New Braunfels is regionally known as a German river town. There are multiple places to drop in an “tube” the Guadalupe, or if you want something more high speed one can spend the day with the family at Schlitterbahn water park (fed from the fresh water of the river).
New Braunfels is also home to the Gruen neighborhood which includes the oldest dancehall in Texas! There, you can dance the night away or stop in to one of the amazing restaurants that overlooks the river. New Braunfels is also a short distance from San Marcos which is home to great shopping, river recreation areas and Texas State University.
